Program Officer

We are looking for staff who will implement a new approach to collaborative research in development in Bangladesh that focuses on aquatic agricultural systems (AAS) and integrates adaptation to climate change. The AAS is defined as a system where aquatic resources, such as fish and shrimp, contribute significantly to total system production. Working with a number of international and national research partners, this approach will be launched in a number of sites (hubs) in Bangladesh, first starting from greater Khulna.
  • Desire to innovate, commitment to learn, belief in farmer-based research
  • Interest in both the social and technical aspects of agriculture and community development, good understanding of local problem identifications and solving skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Bangla, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good skills in data collection, analysis, ability to document and contribute to science reports/papers
  • Good understanding in networking, partnership and capacity building, ability to organise meetings and facilitate training seasons
  • Willingness to be based and work in upazila / district level
  • Ability and willingness to drive motor cycle is an added advantage
Skills and abilities:
  • Strong scientific background and understanding, with a specialization in aquaculture/fisheries or horticulture.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and to take initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.Good capacity to create and maintain relationship with partners, good ability to present and explain the project to external people
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Bangla; ability to write good reports in English
  • Ability to use MS Office- Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills and an understanding of budgets and budgeting;
  • This position will be based in the field and thus entail significant amounts of field travel and as such will require a healthy, energetic person
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent knowledge of Development Studies, Agriculture, Environment, Aquaculture/ Fisheries or Forestry
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in working in rural development, agriculture development, participatory learning and planning processes, group/community management and promoting gender equity
